Party Game
Dodge Ball

Materials needed:

  • A large, soft ball.

    Players divide into two teams.

One team makes a large circle.

The other team is in the middle.

The team on the outside throws the ball and tries to hit the players in the middle.

If a player is hit, they are out of the game.

Play continues until all the players are out.

The teams then trade places, and play again.

    Variation:

Instead of a circle, the playing area can be divided into two halves, and the teams throw the ball back and forth, trying to get all the members of the other team out.

If a ball is thrown and caught, the player who threw the ball is out.

To liven up the game, two or more balls may be used.

    OTHER DODGE BALL GAMES

    Prison Dodge Ball

In this game, the playing area is divided into two halves.
Along the back of each half, a strip is designated as the "prison".
Players throw the ball back and forth, trying to hit members of the other team.
If a player is hit, they are sent to the other team's prison.
Players in the prison can also throw the ball at players on the other team, however, they cannot leave the prison to retrieve or throw balls.
If a ball is thrown and a player catches it, then one of players on their team is released from prison.
Players in prison stay in a line in the order they entered (first one in is the first one released).
The object of the game is to get all the players on the other team into prison.

    Mystery Dodge Ball

Players are divided into two teams.
Each team secretly chooses one person to be their "mystery player".
The playing area is divided into two halves.
Players throw the ball back and forth, trying to hit members of the other team.
If a player is hit, they are out of the game.
If a ball is thrown and caught, the person who threw it is out.
The object of the game is to find and hit the other team's mystery player.

    Army Dodge Ball

Players are divided into two teams, and the playing area is divided in two halves.
Players must stay within their own half of the playing area.
Players throw the ball and try to hit players on the other team.
If a player is hit in the arm or leg, they loose the use of that limb.
If they are hit in the head or torso, they are "dead", and out of the game.
The team with the last person alive wins.

    Monkey in the Middle

Players sit or stand in a circle, and pass a ball around or across to each other.
Players cannot pass the ball to the person next to them.
The "monkey" stands in the middle and tries to steal the ball.
If the monkey gets the ball, they join the circle and the person who last passed it becomes the monkey.
